Admission requirements
This course is open to students of the MA Asian STudies (research) and the MA Middle Eastern Studies (research), who are in the final stages of their study. Ineterested students from other (research)MA may join after consultation with the convener of the course, Prof.dr. J.A. Silk.
Description
This seminar aims to offer an opportunity for students to develop their thesis through exercises in explaining to others, during the writing process. In relation to this, we also discuss opportunities for publication and strategies therefor, and explore possibilities for future academic work, including centrally applying for a PhD position, in the Netherlands, elsewhere in Europe, or in North America.
Course objectives
During the six sessions, students will get information on:
Skills:
Formulating original arguments, in discussion with the group and with each other;
Communicating opinions in an academic manner;
Preparing (own) work for publication;
Preparing a (PhD) research proposal.

Sessions are on Tuesdays, 13.15 - 15 h on 11 February, 4 March, 1 and 22 April, and 13 May.
