Frontiers of Measurement Techniques a.

Description

In the second part of FMT we delve deeper into more advanced topics:

  • measurement and control, such as PID feedback, Kalman filtering, phase locked loop;

  • GHz electronics;

  • Challenges of optical feedback control;

  • SQUID electronics.

As in FMT-a, we will continue to challenge students to creatively come up with possible problems in a new experiment.
The teaching material will be made available through Brightspace.

Course objectives

Upon completion of this course you will be able to:

  • assess the feasibility of (an aspect of) a new experiment and have experienced the creative aspects of designing a new experiment, in the context of one of the above techniques.

Assesment method

The final grade will be determined by either a project report or an (oral) exam.

Resit, review & feedback

Examinations are held twice during the academic year for each component offered in that academic year. Midterm tests cannot be retaken. The Board of Examiners determines the manner of resit for practical assignments.

Software
Starting from the 2024/2025 academic year, the Faculty of Science will use the software distribution platform Academic Software. Through this platform, you can access the software needed for specific courses in your studies. For some software, your laptop must meet certain system requirements, which will be specified with the software. It is important to install the software before the start of the course.
