Description
This course offers an introduction to the phonology of Modern English. Topics considered include allophonic variation, phonological rules and features, syllable and foot structure, stress and rhythm.

These rules can be formulated using phonological features, and with the help of the units of syllable and foot.

Mode of Instruction
One hour lecture and one hour seminar per week.
Assessment
Two in-term quizzes (20%), final written exam (80%); if the average quiz mark is lower than the mark for the final written exam, the latter will count for 100%.
