A pass mark for Linguistics 1 (Propedeuse) or similar course.
Description
This course offers an introduction to the phonology of Modern English. Topics considered include the syllable and foot structure of English, stress and rhythm.
Course objectives
Students gain insight into the phonology of Modern English, and into theoretical analyses of its suprasegmental structure.

Mode of instruction
1 one-hour lecture per week
1 one-hour tutorial per week
Assessment method
Two in-term quizzes (20%), final written exam (80%); if the average quiz mark is lower than the mark for the final written exam, the latter will count for 100%.
