Description
Patrick Modiano is one of the most widely read French novelists of our time. His first novels – La place de l‘étoile, Boulevards de ceinture and La ronde de nuit – contributed to a new openness about Vichy and French Collaboration. The memory of the Second World War and of the Shoah have become recurrent themes in his work eversince. More in general, his novels are a quest for identity where memory plays an important part. Although his style seems simple enough, his novels are rightly called postmodernist. They blur the lines between History and fiction and play with set genres like the detective novel.
