Admission requirements

Toehoorders / à la carte-studenten hebben alleen toegang tot deze cursus met toestemming van de docent.

Description

In this course, we shall discuss a number of contemporary ethical debates on questions of life and death. The course is in two parts. First we shall analyse a number of important moral theories, and discuss a number of abstract questions about death, killing, and human flourishing. This paves the way for the second part of the course in which we shall consider the strengths and weaknesses of philosophical arguments that are (being) put forward in a variety of debates on matters of life and death. Debates included in this course are: capital punishment, killing in war, terrorism, animals, suicide, euthanasia, abortion, and future generations.
