Basic knowledge of Old Irish grammar, for instance acquired by attending the introductory course Irish 3 in the first semester.
Description
In this course the student will translate and study “Tochmarc Étaíne” (“The Wooing of Étaín”) and parts of the “Táin Bó Cuailgne” (“The Cattleraid of Cooley”). These texts will be studied from a cultural-historical as well as from a linguistic point of view.
Course objectives
After completing this course the student will be able to study Old Irish texts independently.

Mode of instruction
Weekly three-hour seminars, on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Assessment method
Oral contribution to class and a written translation test will count for 50% each towards the final mark.
Blackboard
This course is not supported by Blackboard.
