This course is only available for students in the BA International Studies.
Description
This is a language course for beginners and has a communicative approach. Attention will be paid to the use of the language in practical, everyday situations. The focus will be on listening, speaking and reading. However, basic writing instruction will also be part of the course. For this purpose, pronunciation, basic vocabulary, basic grammar and the most important standard phrases will be taught as the key elements of this course.
Course objectives
This course is the first in a series of three language acquisition courses within the International Studies programme. The final objective of this course series is to reach an intermediate level of proficiency in Portuguese, aimed at communication with people in Brazil and other Portuguese-speaking countries throughout the world, in everyday social situations and enabling students to follow current affairs in the region (and the Portuguese-speaking world more broadly) via various media.
Target level in terms of the Common European Framework for this course: Speaking: A1, Listening: A1, Reading: A1. Writing A1.

Three two hour seminars every week
Assessment method
Written and Oral Tests.
