Description
This course provides an introduction into the fields of sociolinguistics, language acquisition and stylistics. These academic fields of enquiry have been enjoying considerable interest with their focus on factors that affect language use, language acquisition and thinking about language. The course itself and its three component parts will be introduced by lectures from specialists. Course material is then discussed further in class, also taught by specialists. The emphasis is on insights in theory and practical exercises.
Course objectives
learn about modern sociolinguistics and the techniques that are part of this discipline
learn about SLA theory and its practical applications.
applying knowledge of Stylistics in your own texts and identifying other writers’ styilistic choices.
