Survey Methodology

Description

The purpose of this course is to provide students with a deeper understanding of a broad range of theoretical and practical aspects of survey methodology. Among the topics that will be discussed are setting up a survey, designing a questionnaire, selecting a sampling design, estimation procedures, modes of data collection, quality issues, the nonresponse problem, and correction for nonresponse. Special attention is paid to web surveys. The course consists of lectures, homework exercises and an analysis of a survey data set with SPSS.

Methods of Instruction

Homework exercises on a weekly basis.

Examination

The final assessment will be based on a two hour written examination on Friday 20 December, 13.00-15.00 hrs in 5B14
The retake is on Thursday 6 March 2014, 9.00-11.00 hrs in 1A24
