Description
This common core course provides a general introduction into the Latin American and Caribbean studies, aiming to present the main theoretical and analytical tools which are applied in the research master’s programme. For this purpose, attention will be paid to several academic debates which have been approached in distinctive ways in the different sub-regions this Research Master is focused on. Also attention will be given to the use of multidisciplinary and comparative approaches in academic undertakings.
Course objectives
This introductory course aims to provide the students with a general spectrum and themes and subjects which will be central during the entire Research Master. A key subject in this review course will be the relation between the Latin American and the Caribbean regions, both in the past as well as in the present.

A series of lectures.
Assessment method
Active participation during the lectures and a paper.
Blackboard
Blackboard will be used to post all the necessary information about the course (programme, time tables, announcements, etc.). Also notices will be posted on interesting activities (such as Conferences, workshops, expositions, etc.), which are related to the themes analyzed during the course.
