Admission requirements
Bachelor in Philosophy or equivalent.
Description
Generally, phenomenology and analytic philosophy are opposed to each other. Both traditions have dealt with the question what thought is, have made the distinction between content and object of thought, and have introduced the idea of a language of thought ( a characteristica universalis, as Leibniz called it), with a structure different from the structure of language. What precisely are the differences and agreements between the two traditions? During the course we will focus on early phenomenology: Franz Brentano and his students, such as Husserl and Meinong.
