Description
The course surveys the movements in the literature of the Netherlands from the medieval age to the present. Highlights of Dutch literature are analysed in their historical context.
Course objectives
The students will acquire an overview of the devolopement of Dutch literature from the Middle Ages till the 21st century as well as various academic approaches to the study of literature.
The students will acquire insight in the texts, its historical context and its place in Dutch literary history.

Mode of instruction
Lectures
Individual study of one of the texts based on additional readings
Assessment method
Written texts with essay questions 50%
Research paper (2000 words) 50%
If the mark for the research paper is insufficient, the student may rewrite the paper once, after having consulted the lecturer.
