Description
The course Field school introduction consists of 4 lectures in which several aspects of the fieldwork will be dealt with, such as:
Context of fieldwork: the Dutch archaeological system, Malta convention and Dutch Archaeology Standard
Landscape: the development of the coastal area
Specific archaeological techniques
Safety regulations for field schools
Introduction to the archaeological site (period and location), depending on the selected site
Course objectives
The goal of this course is to equip students with sufficient knowledge to understand the context of the field school. The student:
has knowledge of and insight into how the Dutch archaeological system operates;
knows the academic research questions pertaining to the selected site;
knows how to place the excavation in a historical and archaeological context;
knows the safety regulations as specified in the Dutch Archaeological Quality Standards.

Lectures.
Course load
The course load will be distributed as follows:
4×2 hours of lectures;
200 pages of literature.
Assessment method
Written examination (multiple choice).
All exam dates (exams, retakes, paper deadlines etc.) can be found in the examination schedule.
