Description
This language and culture course aims to develop students’ oral, listening, reading and writing skills through the study of grammar and cultural topics by way of written and visual materials. A discussion on cultural trends and topics concerning Brazilian society are integrated into language learning through an interactive programme of language acquisition. In addition, the course will develop students’ written communication skills with semi-formal and formal written texts (e.g., letters of application, letters of complaint, etc.).
Course objectives
This course covers four key skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. The course makes use of materials selected by the tutors, including authentic materials. These aim at the development of skills through practical written and oral exercises (individual and group-based).

Written exams include linguistic exercises (e.g., fill-the-gap, short answer, etc.), written comprehension, listening comprehension, and short essay.
Oral assessments: short presentation and question/answer session
Resit for relevant component: written exam/oral.
