This class is only accessible for students of the MA African Studies.
Description
During the first semester, the thesis classes will provide a focused environment for a first grounding in the specific methodological and interdisciplinary approach most relevant to the students’ expected thesis topic. The students will be guided through the process of designing a research project and preparing an MA thesis outline and their internship proposal. Seven classes will be offered. During the second semester, the students will be guided through the process of writing their Ma theses including the practical aspects of academic writing. Seven classes will be offered.

7 September 11.00-13.00 – Introduction; tasks and deadlines; information on Internship by Leiden Internship coordinator (see http://www.hum.leiden.edu/careerservice/work-placements/ and http://www.hum.leidenuniv.nl/loopbaanservice/afrika_midden_oosten ) and on safety issues.
21 September – Meeting with lecturers and research groups. Presentation Internship proposal. Draft. Submission Internship proposal for getting funding is: 31 October 2016.
5 October – Students present Initial research proposal: (1 or 2) pages
20 October: Students present background readings and textbook chapters; discussion situation funding and Internship
2 November: Students present Research Proposal First draft: 7 pages including WORK PLAN and Internship form (to check that all the students contacted the Internship coordinator and worked on it).
16 November: Students present background readings and textbook chapters; discussion situation funding and Internship
30 November: Students present Research Proposal Final version: 10 pages
