Admission requirements
Successful completion of the course “Biblical Hebrew 2” (BA Ancient Cultures of the Mediterranean World: Hebrew and Aramaic languages and cultures) or comparable knowledge, to the discretion of the teacher.
Description
The course consists of four parts:
a) Reading unvocalised Biblical Hebrew texts, paying attention to details of the grammar and an active knowledge of grammatical paradigms.
b) Translation of English texts into fully-vocalised Biblical Hebrew.
c) An oral presentation (with elaborate handout and/or PowerPoint) on grammatical and philological details of a Biblical Hebrew text on the basis of thorough literature study.
d) A written paper (ca. 5000 words) on the subject of the oral presentation.

Course Load
Total course load: 280h (10 ec), divided as follows:
Course hours (13 × 2 weekly): 26h;
Preparation of bi-weekly translations: 58h;
Preparation oral presentation: 58h;
Preparation final written paper: 140h.
Assessment method
Bi-weekly translations (35%), oral presentation (30%), final paper (35%).
Weighing
The final grade for the course is established by determining the weighted average.
Resit
Should the overall mark be unsatisfactory, the paper can be revised after consultation with the teacher.
