Description

The domain of “business analytics” plays an increasingly important role in the decision-making processes of firms, partly due to large amounts of information that have become available. The data collected on customers and their behavior contain valuable business knowledge. The business analytics part of this course provides insights in how firms use business analytics to optimize their decision-making processes. This part of the course provides an introduction to the area of business analytics by answering the following questions: 1) Why do businesses use business analytics techniques? 2) Which possibilities does business analytics offer to such businesses? 3) How do datasets look like that firms use? 4) How can the information in these datasets be summarized and visualized? 5) Which often-used analysis techniques exist in the area of business analytics and how can these techniques be applied? In addition to some theoretical aspects we will emphasize the practical side of business analytics and how it can be used to improve business processes.
