Only open to master’s students of Clinical Neuropsychology, having participated in the Master course Child Neuropsychology: Theory and assessment of neurodevelopmental disorders.
Description
During the seminars, the different stages of a neuropsychological assessment and various (neuro)psychological tests will be discussed. Furthermore, case material will be used to introduce the various psycho-diagnostic domains. The course provides a practical training in clinical neuropsychological assessment of children, building up diagnostic skills by training on the following domains:
The pediatric diagnostic interview and observations
Writing pediatric neuropsychological reports
Intelligence testing
Executive functions and attention
Behavioral and personality assessment
Memory and perception, visuo-spatial abilities and motor skills
Presenting your analysis and conclusions – the clinical case
Course objectives
The main objective of this course is to provide students with basic professional skills for competent clinical practice of child neuropsychology. These skills are related to:
Collecting relevant information, through (hetero)anamnesis and observations
Choosing the right instruments based on collected information
Administering and scoring of tests
Formulating a neuropsychological conclusion/diagnosis in written and spoken form
At the end of the course, students will have gained knowledge about how to perform neuropsychological assessments and how to report the results through oral and written reports.

Students need to enroll for lectures and work group sessions.
Master’s course registration
Examination
Students are not automatically enrolled for an examination. They can register via uSis from 100 to 10 calendar days before the date. Students who are not registered will not be permitted to take the examination.

Mode of instruction
This course consists of 7 work group sessions of 3 hours each, which are all mandatory. In between seminars students will have to practice (together) with several tests and questionnaires. Students will also have to perform an actual neuropsychological assessment, which includes history taking, assessing a child, writing a report and discussing the results in class.
Assessment method
Individual Assignments (e.g. writing parts of a neuropsychological report about different cases) (40%)
A series of questions (individual) checking sufficiency of practicing with relevant test materials and questionnaires (sufficient)
Written neuropsychological report about a child assessed by students themselves (group assignment) (60%)
