Propedeuse (first year) Archaeology obtained.
Description
This course teaches insight into the application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in archaeological fieldwork and analyses. The new research methods made possible by this technology will be the centre of this course.
Course objectives
Gaining insight into the way in which Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are currently used in archaeology. The technical aspects as well as their applications will be discussed;
Learning how to manage and analyse spatial archaeological data;
Ability to make simple (distribution) maps in GIS for one’s own research.

Mode of instruction
Lectures;
Practical sessions with compulsory attendance.
Course load
The course load will be distributed as follows:
14 hours of lectures (1 ec);
36 hours of practical sessions including a final assignment (2 ec);
287 pages of literature (2 ec).
Assessment method
Written exam.
You will only receive the exam result if you have attended all the practical sessions, and the final practical assignments have been submitted through BlackBoard.
