Description
This course explores the various ways in which non-state actors engage in policymaking at the national and supranational level. We will consider the various strategies used by non-state actors to influence policymakers at different levels of governance, and under which conditions these strategies prove effective. The course will introduce students to a number of theories to explain the collective action of non-state actors and their capacity to influence governments and international organizations. It will review the opportunities and constraints of different types of non-state actors (e.g NGOs, trade unions, employer groups, multinational corporations, thinks tanks; regulatory bodies; rating agencies) within different levels of governance and organizations (e.g national governments, the European Union, the WTO).
Course objectives
After taking this course, students will be able to:
Understand the role of non-state actors in policymaking across different levels of governance
Understand the different opportunities and constraints offered by different political settings, national and international
Understand the different capacity of collective action and influence of different types of non-state actors

Course Load
Total study load is 140 hours.
Assessment method
Two written assignments (40-40), participation and quizzes (20).
