Admission requirements
A pass for Language Acquisition 2 (or an equivalent introductory course on academic writing) and Language Acquisition 3 (or equivalent) is required.
Description
This course is designed to assist students in preparing for the BA thesis with a focus writing to sources. In the first half of the course we build on previous coursework in academic writing by examining topics such as source integration, expository writing strategies (e.g., argumentative structures), and peer review. You will locate, read, and analyze academic sources related to a potential BA thesis topic (e.g., in literature, philology, theoretical or applied linguistics) and construct an annotated bibliography of those sources in the first half of the course. This bibliography will serve as the bases for a literature review essay to be completed in the second half.
In the second half of the course, you will compose a review of literature based on your annotated bibliography by meeting in peer review groups of four to five students. With guidance from your tutor and your peers, you will participate in peer review sessions to facilitate the process of moving your literature review from an initial rough draft to an edited final draft.
In order to participate in the second half of the course, you must meet the following criteria: 1) attend block III tutorials having completed weekly assignments; and 2) achieve a score of 6 or higher on your annotated bibliography, which is due the last week of block III.
