Description
The ability to write well is increasingly an important factor in personal, academic and professional life. Yet how writing competence is understood varies depending upon the social purposes for which it is undertaken. In this course, we will explore how writing as a socially situated activity is variously conceptualized drawing from approaches in systemic functional linguistics. The course is designed to prepare students with the strategic knowledge required to engage with advanced writing tasks in English that are aligned with their future goals for career and/or further study. Students will select a genre of writing to analyze and share their findings in both an oral presentation and a written composition drawing from their independent research.
