Description
Introduction to Middle Welsh from a historical-comparative perspective, i.e. in comparison with the other Celtic and Indo-European languages. The first part of the course treats the phonology and morphology of Middle Welsh, and sketches its evolution from Proto-Indo-Europrean. During the second part we read a famous Middle Welsh text.
Course objectives
Good understanding of the linguistic structure of Middle Welsh
Elementary reading skills
Understanding of the position of Middle Welsh within the Celtic languages and within the Indo-European language family

Course load
5 ECTS = 140 hours, of which 28 hours of classes, 67 hours preparation, 42 hours for preparing the exam, 2 hours for the exam. No intermediate exam.

Exam review
How and when an exam review will take place will be disclosed together with the publication of the exam results at the latest. If a student requests a review within 30 days after publication of the exam results, an exam review will have to be organized.
