Description
The iGEM Foundation is dedicated to education and competition, advancement of synthetic biology, and the development of open community and collaboration. The main program at the iGEM Foundation is the International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) Competition, which is the premiere student competition in Synthetic Biology. Since 2004, participants of the competition have experienced education, teamwork, sharing, and more in a unique competition setting. This competition aims to build biological systems from standard, interchangeable parts and operate them in living cells. However, iGEM is much more than a competition; the iGEM community has a long history of involving students and the public in the development of the new field of synthetic biology.
Since the academic year 2015-2016 a Leiden iGEM team participates in the iGEM competition. The team is built around highly enthusiastic and bright honorsstudents. This first team has represented our University in Boston, USA at the annual Jamboree in September 2016.
