Deze variant wordt aanbevolen aan studenten die reeds een sociaal- of gedragswetenschappelijke studie volgen en daardoor al bekend zijn met methoden en technieken van onderzoek, maar aan de andere kant interesse hebben in Afrika of Zuidoost Azië.

Deze minorvariant wordt met name aanbevolen aan studenten die bij Geesteswetenschappen (Humanities) studeren, omdat hier een inleiding wordt aangeboden in sociaalwetenschappelijke onderzoeksmethoden.
NB: het vak Displacement and Development in South Asia is in augustus 2017 uit het aanbod van deze minorvariant gehaald, vanwege een overlap met het rooster van een ander vak. Studenten worden verzocht om een van de andere vakken op niveau 300 te kiezen als ze deze variant van de minor CA-OS willen volgen.
