East Asian Studies keuzepakket
The East Asian region is at the centre of political, economic, security and cultural developments in today’s world, signalling a shift in global power that will shape the 21st century. Whether the focus is on China’s burgeoning economy, relations between North and South Korea, or the popularity of Japanese anime and manga, East Asia is seldom out of the news. Interpreting these developments requires not only innovative methodological and theoretical tools, but also a deep appreciation of East Asian history, cultures, societies, philosophies, religious thought and practices to understand how the region’s past permeates through to the present. Students taking the East Asian Studies keuzepakket will be exposed to the distinct identities, cultures and societies of China, Japan, and Korea, as well as the shared interests and traditions of these states the bind the region together.
