Admission requirements

The course is open for all students that are enrolled in the LDE Minor Frugal Innovation for Sustainable Global Development.

Description

The bootcamp is a stepping stone towards a more precise description of the field assignment. During the Field Assignment Preparation course you will work further on this description and work toward a final field assignment plan that has been discussed with and has the approval of the field assignment provider(s) and supervisor(s). In addition, students will get further acquainted with the country of destination and the local context, its history and culture, and the hosts that have provided for the field assignment. Also a Safety & Health session and sessions on intercultural communication and inculturation are part of this course. During working groups and individual meetings, students will be guided by their field assignment supervisor(s).
Course objectives

  • Get a realistic overview of their individual tasks and duties during the field assignment

  • Plan their activities for the field assignment

  • Reflect on safety, health and cultural issues in the country of destination.

Timetable

Several sessions (half a day or a full day) between 4 September 2019 and 5 November 2019. A detailed time schedule will be published on Blackboard (Leiden University).

Expert lectures, in-class group assignments, in-class individual assignments

84 total hours of study

Assessment method

Evaluation of presentations and intermediate and final written assignments, including a final field assignment plan. Details will be presented in the syllabus for the minor.

In this course, Blackboard is used to present course information, notify yourself of changes to the course and to make course materials available.

Reading list

Scientific and professional papers and teaching cases, to be provided or indicated via Blackboard.
