Vak
2018-2019

NB Language spoken in course is Dutch unless English-speaking students participate

Description

Students’ schools and classrooms are their daily learning environments. The social interactions that occur in these environments – including interactions among students and between students and teachers – affect students’ social, emotional, and behavioral functioning. In this course, the focus is on effects of students’ learning environments on their social / emotional and behavioral functioning in school. Methods for manipulating the environment to improve student behavioral functioning are first discussed. Further, motivational theory is applied to educational practice and used to argue how teacher-student interactions can undermine or foster student social / emotional functioning. Specific attention is paid to individual and group differences between students.
