Global Public Health

The BSc in Global Public Health is designed to provide undergraduate students with an holistic understanding of the complex factors that contribute to population health challenges in increasingly globalized societies. Rapid changes due to economic globalization; neoliberalization of trade; population migration; urbanization; poor infrastructure and sanitation; inaccessibility to health care and essential medicines; decentralization of health care; weakening health care systems; structural violence and increased social stratification and inequity; climate and environmental change; food insecurity; and increased complex emergencies and natural disasters have all deleteriously affected the health of populations. Global Public Health is an ideal major for students who seek to examine, comprehend, and intervene with these complex global health challenges.

The goal of the Global Public Health major at LUC is for students to equally develop both theoretical and applied abilities in order to comprehensively assess and intervene with population health challenges from community to global levels. The curriculum includes foundational and methodological courses within the health sciences; social sciences; and medical humanities utilizing both quantitative and qualitative methods that will best prepare the LUC student for future academic and applied work (ranging from population health interventions to policy making) concerning the health and well-being of populations. Students are encouraged to utilize the health care agencies in The Hague for an internship.
