Gender & Women's Studies
Please note: This is an LUC minor, not a Leiden University minor programme.
At the heart of minor in Gender and Women’s Studies (GWS) is a recognition that gender and sexuality are fundamental categories of social organization and power that shape societies alongside race, ethnicity, class, nationality, faith, and other forms of social difference. Students pursuing the minor will receive a solid grounding in the theories and interdisciplinary approaches that make up this dynamic field, which links conceptually to several majors at LUC. Some of the areas of study that fall within the minor’s purview include women’s and gender history; lesbian/gay/bisexual studies; gender and politics; gender and development; gender, sexuality and law; queer and feminist theory; and transgender studies. The minor prepares students to do advanced graduate work in related interdisciplinary fields, and will inform professional work in development, government, and community service.
