Religion is everywhere. Knowledge of religion is essential for anyone who wants to understand the world. If you are fascinated by the diversity of religions, their development through history and their meaning today – both in people’s personal lives and in society -, the minor Religion in a Changing World is the right choice as a supplement to your major. The minor includes the selection of two courses on specific religious traditions (Christianity, Islam, Judaism Hinduism, Buddhism, religions of antiquity, new religious movements). Additionally a cluster of introductory courses on the various disciplines involved in the study of religion will be offered, e.g. the comparative, social, anthropological, and psychological approaches. This minor will acquaint students with the tools essential for studying, interpreting and analyzing religion as a (human) phenomenon.

The minor includes the selection of two courses on specific religious traditions (Christianity, Islam, Judaism Hinduism, Buddhism, religions of antiquity, new religious movements). Extent: 30 ec

Intended for:All students with an interest in the subject matter, that passed a first bacheloryear of 60 ec.

Language of instruction: English and Dutch. You can opt for a completely English taught package or a mix of Dutch and Eglish taught courses, that depends on the courses you choose.

Students with an academic Bachelor Degree in Humanities or Social Sciences, who successfully finished the minor ‘Religion in a changing World’, will be admitted to the Master Religious Studies at Leiden University.
