This course gives an introduction to the formulation and study of mathematical models. The basic models in a variety of biological fiels, ranging from cell biology to epidemiology, are surveyed. Major issues are: How are model assumptions related to biological data? What are models good for? We will use the book by Ellner and Guckenheimer (see below) with additional notes where necessary.
