Ecology II

Botanic macrofossils:
After the sampling in the field, the samples are stored until the botanical macrofossils are analysed.

Palynology:
As soon as the samples of a site are collected, parts of those samples can be examined on spores and pollen.

Learning objectives:

Botanic macrofossils:

  • Know how to select which part of a sample can be used for analyses in the laboratory;

  • Itimize macrofossilic botanical material;

  • Identify the fossils through reference materials;

  • To be able to place the data in a diagram;

  • To make reconstructions through the diagram.

Palynology:

  • To be able to use reference material to identify spores and pollen of a Quaternary site;

  • To be able to make a pollen-diagram;

  • To be able to interpret palynological data.
