Many issues in international relations are related to the topic of international security, including war, terrorism, piracy, human rights violations, international crime, arms races, nuclear proliferation, resource depletion, environmental degradation, and energy scarcity. Through a consideration of key debates, empirical cases, and theoretical studies, this course offers an overview of the field. It includes an analysis of ‘security’ as an evolving key concept in International Relations theories as well as the study of specific security issues in contemporary international politics. The course also goes into the study of the international security architecture. How do states and international organizations try to maintain international security?
