Description

This Spanish language course builds on the intermediate written and oral communication skills developed over the course of Spanish 2. Topics concerning Latin American culture are integrated into language learning through an interactive programme of language acquisition.

Course objectives

This course covers four key skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing, to an intermediate level. Course-book and other additional, including authentic, materials will be used in the development of communication skills through practical written and oral exercises (individual and group-based).

Mode of instruction

Tutorial classes: 3 meeting of 2hrs. per week.

Course Load

Total course load: 140 hs.
-Amount of contact hours: 36hs
-Homework time: 72hs (2hs per class)
-Assessments preparation time: 32hs (8hs per assessment)

Assessment method

  • Writing assessment (in class): 30%

  • Listening comprehension test (in class): 15%

  • Oral assessment: 20%

  • Grammar , vocabulary and reading comprehension exam: 35%
    The final mark for the course is established by determining the weighted average.
    The resit will be a written exam of two hours, and will test if the students have reached the end level of the course. This exam consists of the following components:

  • Vocabulary and grammar tasks

  • Writing tasks

  • Reading comprehension task
