Description
In the first year undergraduate courses (1) Text Interpretation, (2) Argumentation, (3) Book Review, and (4) Critical Review, students practice a cumulative series of academic skills that are essential to social scientific study and research. These skills will form the foundation of students’ studies throughout the International Relations and Organization program.
Course objectives
Students who complete the course successfully should gain a better understanding of:
- The key elements as they are addressed in a scientific book review.
Students who complete the course successfully should improve their ability to:
Summarize the arguments and key findings of the book;
Indicate the theoretical contribution of the book;
Identify the strengths and weaknesses of the book;
Determine for which public (academic and/or policy makers) the book is suitable;
Formulate an agenda for further research.
