Description

This Portuguese language course builds on the written and oral communication skills developed in Portuguese 1, developing further the ability of expressing past events, experiences, wishes etc. Moreover, whilst developing language skills, the course aims at familiarizing students further with elements of Brazilian culture, through the use of authentic materials.

Course objectives

This course covers four key skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. By the end of the course, students will be familiar with elementary language structures and a selection of practical vocabulary clusters.

  • Attending lectures: 4 hours per week, 6weeks: 24 hours

  • Assessment: 3 hours

  • Studying Literature: 68 hours

  • Preparation for testing: 45 hours

Assessment

Written assessments: written assignment 15%;
Weekly assignments: 20%
Final exam 40% (tests include linguistic exercises – eg. fill-the-gap exercises – and written comprehension or short composition).
Oral assessment: 25% of mark (short presentation and question/answer session).

The final mark for the course is established by determining the weighted average.

Exam review

How and when an exam review will take place will be disclosed together with the publication of the exam results at the latest. If a student requests a review within 30 days after publication of the exam results, an exam review will have to be organized.
