JRP-I has successfully been completed and the report has been handed in via Kl-app. The course How to write a research proposal has successfully been completed. The Research Proposal for your JRP-II has also been handed in via Kl-app.
Description
The number of ECTS will be between 40.0-54.0
In order to achieve the objectives the student familiarizes him/herself with the existing knowledge in the field to which the research question pertains. He/she carries out individual research in order to obtain answers to the research questions and participates as a member of the research team, in the departmental and/or laboratory consultations and in the work discussions.
This research project includes the execution of the research itself, keeping up-to-date with literature and reporting of the results, both written and orally. The stages of planning and preliminary literature research are part of writing a research proposal (312200100Y), and are separate from the ECTS for the internship.
Course objectives
The student:
knows and understands subject-specific aspects of the JRP II-related research field
is able to acquire and extend knowledge and understanding efficiently, which includes study of specialist literature;
knows, understands and is able to apply the most common and state of the art analytical, quantitative and/or statistical techniques in this research field
is able to critically analyse and consider experimental results and data from his/her own research and to process this data;
is able to think in multidisciplinary terms and to make connections between his/her own research and (international) research results.
shows responsible scientific conduct through his/her capacity to form a balanced judgement based on consideration of relevant social, cultural, scientific or ethical aspects.
is able to work independently on his/her research in order to show overall control in his/her research and to assess where his/her own research can contribute to the biomedical sciences field and to society;
is able to formulate scientific questions/objectives in such a way that useful experiments can be designed of which the results will not only extend knowledge but preferably also contribute to problem solving that is relevant to the biomedical sciences field and to society.
is able to communicate scientific data, conclusions from his/her own research, as well as the knowledge, motives and considerations underlying this research clearly and unambiguously to a specialist and non-specialist public;
is able to defend and debate his/her own position regarding his/her own research;
is able to reflect on his/her own actions as well as on the actions and judgements of others, and to assimilate these to improve his/her own product, approach and conduct;
is able to think and work at an academic level and is able and willing to improve on this;
is able and aware of the necessity to keep abreast of relevant developments in the biomedical field;

Mode of instruction
Research internship, including individual preparation and conduct of a research project (design, lab or other analyses, collection and interpretation of data/outcomes, generation of ideas for further research), At the end of the internship, the student must present and document his/her results both in a written report and by an oral presentation for the department. Following the internship, the student will also present his/her results in an oral presentation to a lay audience during the graduation ceremony.
Assessment method
The student is assessed on the following aspects:
Project activities (knowledge, skills, independence, originality, scientific quality, social skills, motivation)
Written report (scientific content; scientific writing skills)
Oral presentation (content/structure, presentation skills)
Twelve weeks after the internship has begun, the project coordinator and the daily supervisor fill in the interim assessment form (available on-line in Kl-app) and discuss this with the student. Together they define the students’ strong points and points for improvement. The student also provides feedback to the project coordinator/daily supervisor. The interim assessment form is based on the final assessment form and discusses the project activities. More detailed information on the assessment can be obtained through the assessment forms available through Kl-app and Brightspace.

Registration
Registration for FOS courses, H2W, Scientific Conduct, Course on Lab Animal Sciences and CRiP takes place in lottery rounds in the beginning of July. Remarks
Guidelines for a successful internship are provided with the application form of the internship via Kl-app and Brightspace.
JRP-II needs to be approved beforehand by the Master’s Internship Committee . Therefore, please send in an application form at least six weeks before the foreseen start of your project via Kl-app. This should also provide ample time to write the Research Proposal (312200100Y), which is written and handed in prior to the start of JRP-II. JRP-II is subject to the Procedures Training Periods/Research Projects. These regulations require detailed written agreements in the application form between project coordinator and student, that specify the conditions for the Research Project. Please consult these regulations beforehand via Kl-app or Brightspace, and act accordingly.
