Course information
Nowadays, governance and sustainability are of significant importance for any corporation, both within and beyond the financial sector. This course aims to introduce students to the role that governance plays, its key actors, and different theories, as well as its close links with sustainable finance. Students will learn key elements of sustainable finance regulation, including various reporting and due diligence requirements. Besides public regulatory initiatives, students will become familiar with initiatives by private actors, such as industry standards as well as sustainability related litigation. Students are expected to present on different topics of governance and sustainable finance during the seminar.

Students gain thorough knowledge and understanding of the key elements of governance in general and in the financial sector specifically;
Students gain thorough knowledge and understanding of sustainable finance and its links with governance;
Learning outcomes
Application:
Students are able to discuss and critically assess the key elements of good governance, of sustainable finance, and to relate these two topics;
Students are able to present on governance and sustainability, either alone or in a team.
Presentation:
- Students are able to host a discussion forum on governance and sustainability.
Mode of instruction
Lectures and seminars will be held in a weekly schedule in a classroom setting with mandatory class attendance. Only when required by government regulation or decided by the Programme Board, teaching will be conducted in an online setting.

Number of (2 hour) lectures & seminars: 10

Required preparation by students: reading of prescribed materials, preparation of case studies and any other assignments.
Examination method
Oral presentation: 30%
Final exam: 70%
The final grade, on the scale from 1 (poor) to 10 (outstanding), for the course is established by determining the weighted average of the oral presentation and final exam and rounded to full grades. Grade 6 (5.5 rounded) is a pass.
Oral presentation:
Students are required to deliver a 15 minute presentation on an assigned topic which is part of the relevant subject discussed during the course. The oral presentation cannot be retaken. The presentation needs to be submitted through Brightspace in suitable format. Depending on the number of students this setup, format etc. may vary in order to facilitate the discussions during the seminars.
Final exam:
The final exam will cover all the material delivered during the lectures and the seminars.
Further information about the oral presentation and the exam will be communicated to students through Brightspace at the start of the course.
