Scientific Writing

Course
2008-2009

In this intensive course, students will learn how to write an article based on empirical findings, how to design appropriate tables and figures, and how to design an effective scientific poster.
The focus is on academic writing both on a sentence level (i.e., when to use the passive tense, how to create flow, where in a sentence readers expect the new information, etc.) and on a section level (i.e., what information goes where, how to increase structure, how to outline an introduction or a discussion, etc.). The Williams course book will help students write good sentences, and the examples discussed in class will help students provide more structure to their sections.
