Practicum Psycholinguistiek

This practical focuses on practical experimental work within psycholinguistics. It introduces some of the most common methodologies and experimental paradigms such as: word- and picture naming, lexical decision, categorization and (semantic and phono-/morphological) priming. It provides the student with the necessary skills to independently design, undertake and analyze a psycholinguistic experiment. Main emphasis will be on the following aspects: designing a psycholinguistic experiment (stimuli selection, randomization and counterbalancing), gathering data using the software program “E-prime 2.0” (and equipment), data analyzing using the programs “E-DataAid” and “SPSS”, and reporting the obtained results.
At the end of this practical, students should be able to:
1. Kennis van de meest voorkomende onderzoeksmethoden, paradigma’s, terminologieën en methodologieën in de psycholinguïstiek.
2. Het onafhankelijk opzetten, uitvoeren en analyseren van psycholinguïstisch onderzoek.
3. Kennis van de programma’s “E-prime 2.0” (inclusief E-Basic scripting) en statistische analyseprogramma’s als mede het gebruik van veelgebruikte hardware (zoals een voice-key).
