Prerequisites: successful completion of Inleiding Middelegyptisch and Lectuur Middelegyptisch.
Description
This course is aimed at developing language skills in Old and Middle Egyptian through reading secular hieroglyphic texts from the Old and Middle Kingdoms. The thematic center of gravity is in the development of the ancient Egyptian autobiography, a genre that was carried forward throughout Egyptian history.
Course objectives
At the end of this course, students will have developed their practical knowledge of grammar and extended their Egyptian vocabularies. They will also be able to synthesize ideas built out of primary and secondary sources.

Assessment method
Mid-term examination: 35%. Final examination: 65%.
The mid-term and final examinations will involve the transliteration, translation, and parsing of hieroglyphic texts.
