Linguistics 2 must have been successfully completed.
Description
This course studies the syntax of Present-day English within the theoretical framework of generative linguistics. We will closely examine a number of syntactic constructions and will try to explain the properties of these constructions on the basis of several important descriptive methods and theoretical concepts of generative linguistics.
Course objectives
Students have the ability to analyse syntactic structure and to formulate syntactic arguments, both written and orally.
Students know important descriptive methods and theoretical concepts of generative syntax.
Students know a number of theoretical proposals for the syntax of English.

written exam (combination of closed questions and essay questions) (70%)
written assignment (30%)
If the final grade is 5 or less students may only resit the insufficient course component(s).
Attendance is compulsory. Unauthorized absence will mean that you cannot take part in the relevant exam(s).
