A pass mark for Linguistics 5: Introduction to English Generative Syntax (or a similar course).
Description
This course is a continuation of Linguistics 5: Introduction to English Generative Syntax. We will discuss a number of theoretical proposals that play an important role in the syntactic literature. We will also discuss recent developments in generative syntax, especially in Chomsky’s Minimalist Program.
Course objectives
Students have the ability to analyse syntactic structure and to formulate syntactic arguments, both written and orally.
Students know a number of recent theoretical proposals for the syntax of English and are able to critically evaluate these proposals.

written exam (combination of closed questions and essay questions) (70%)
written assignment (30%)
If the final grade is 5 or less students may only resit the insufficient course component(s).
Attendance is compulsory. Unauthorized absence will mean that you cannot take part in the relevant exam(s).
