Advanced level in Spanish (C1-C2). Students with an advanced knowledge of Brazilian Portuguese and a passive knowledge (reading and oral comprehension) of Spanish will be accepted.

Desplazamiento, memoria e identidad en la narrativa y el cine latinoamericanos
Este curso de maestría tomará como punto de referencia el desplazamiento, en sus múltiples variantes, un fenómeno que ha transformado, y continua modificando, el escenario latinoamericano. Bajo su influencia las configuraciones identitarias se (re)definen generando encuentros y desencuentros interculturales que caracterizan el panorama de la región. A partir de las experiencias de desplazamiento y el surgimiento de los contextos de migración y diápora, entre otros, se replantean también las representaciones del espacio urbano así como los procesos de la memoria individual y colectiva se dinamizan y adquieren complejidad. La manera de pensar sobre las fronteras espaciales, los territorios nacionales o lingüísticos así como la división entre alta cultura y cultura popular se reposicionan en estos contextos. Todos estos fenómenos encuentran su reflejo en la narrativa latinoamericana así como en otros productos culturales, de la mano de los cuales ingresaremos al análisis y estudio de esta Latinoamérica en constante ebullición.
Course objectives
- To develop students’ critical and analytical skills through close reading of a wide range of texts (written and visual); * To provide an insight into a variety of critical approaches around the theme discussed; * To develop a students’ presentation skills.

Attending classes (2 hrs a week): 26 hrs;

Reading literature: 114 hrs.

Class presentations (30%);
Written assignments (20%);
Final Essay (5000 to 5500 words) (50%).
The papers for the research master should pay more attention to the theoretical framework of their paper and relate the case study to a key debate on Latin American Modernities (discussed in the core courses). To this end, these students will get at least one extra individual meeting focused on theory and a more complex research question.
The final mark for the course is established by determining the weighted average.
