1. Description
Practicum Musicae (PM) offers multi-talented Academic students the possibility to nourish and explore their musicality at the Royal Conservatoire (RC) in The Hague. You can use your EC, obtained at the KC, to fill in all your optional subjects at the UL.
In this program you’ll follow individual lessons with teachers from the Royal Conservatoire to improve your playing, singing or writing. Next to these individual lessons, you’ll follow a Music theory class and coaching’s to help you develop your repertoire-skills.
Via PM, you can develop yourself broadly, both academically as musically.
Practicum Musicae is a program of the Academy of Creative and Performing Arts (ACPA). ACPA is the link between the University of Leiden and the University of the Arts The Hague, which consists of the Royal Academy of Art and the Royal Conservatoire. For more info about ACPA.

Classical Music (all instruments including conducting)
Vocal (Classical singing and choirconducting)
Jazz (all instruments including jazz-singing)
Ancient Music (all instruments including ancient singing)

2. Structure
The entire PM-program takes three years, carries 30 EC and consists of three levels: PM1 (10 EC), PM2 (10EC) and PM3 (10EC). You can also choose to participate in the program for only one, or two years.
Practicum Musicae has the following elements:
- Individual main subject lessons: 50 minutes per week (32 weeks a year), by a teacher from the Royal Conservatoire. Which will be tested in the end of the year in an exam (7 EC, PM1 and PM2. 10 EC, PM3).
- Coach pianist/ Duo class: 12,5 min per week for students of the Classical and for Jazz-singers. Singers in the Vocal department get 25 min per week. The Coach Pianist helps you to master your repertoire-skills and to improve your playing/singing with accompaniment. Duo class teaches pianists how to accompany a singer. The student and teacher can agree on having once every two weeks a session of 25 minutes, or once a month 50 minutes.
- Elementary Music Theory (EMT): 100 minutes per week (3EC). A group lesson for the basics on music theory. PM strives to improve all students also on the theory-level and looks for a tailor-made solution for all her participants. The more advanced students follow a different program.
After a successful participation in the PM program, you’ll receive a certificate from the Royal Conservatoire.
3. Toelatingseisen
Om tot PM toegelaten te worden moeten studenten auditie doen voor een kleine commissie van docenten van het Koninklijk Conservatorium. Tijdens deze auditie wordt onderzocht of de student over voldoende motivatie, muzikale bekwaamheid en aanleg beschikt. De beslissing over de toelaatbaarheid van de student ligt bij de auditiecommissie.
De audities voor het volgende studiejaar vinden plaats in het daaraan voorafgaande studiejaar. Voor het studiejaar 2018-2019 is dat in april 2018. De deadline voor inschrijving is 1 maart 2018. Om onnodige teleurstellingen bij deze auditie te voorkomen, wordt er een voorselectie gehouden.
Aspirant studenten worden gevraagd een motivatiemail en een muzikaal cv op te sturen. In sommige gevallen kan de aspirant gevraagd worden om een opname op te sturen, of een proefles te volgen.
Aspirant Jazz- en Zangstudenten wordt gevraagd een motivatie, cv en opname up te loaden voor de voorselectie.
De afdelingen Klassiek, Oude Muziek, Zang-Klassiek, Compositie en Jazz hanteren verschillende toelatingseisen en -procedures voor zowel de voorselectie als de formele auditie. Neem hierover contact op met de coördinator van Practicum Musicae via PM@Koncon.nl
Het Toelatingsniveau ligt op voorbereidende klasniveau, maar veel PM-studenten spelen bij hun toelating al op een hoger niveau.

5. Rooster
De lessen van het PM vinden plaats in zowel het eerste als het tweede semester. De individuele lessen, waaronder ook de correpetities en duoklas, zijn op afspraak met de docent. Het theoriecollege EMT wordt op verschillende momenten in de week gegeven. Studenten kunnen hierdoor kiezen voor een lestijd die het beste binnen hun Leidse rooster past. Alle lessen vinden plaats op het Koninklijk Conservatorium (Juliana van Stolberglaan 1, Den Haag).
6. Toetsing
Een jaar PM wordt afgesloten met een examen voor een kleine commissie van docenten. Dit examen duurt ongeveer 20 minuten en vindt plaats in de periode mei/juni. Het programma wordt in overleg met de docent vastgesteld. EMT 1 wordt afgesloten met een schriftelijk tentamen in de periode mei/juni.
7. Honourstraject
Het is mogelijk om een honourstraject PM te volgen. Naast het gehele PM-programma doet de student een onderzoek, gebaseerd op een met de aan de student toegewezen onderzoekscoach geformuleerde onderzoeksvraag. Dit heeft als eindresultaat een paper. 9. Opmerkingen
Practicum Musicae is uitsluitend bedoeld voor studenten van de Universiteit Leiden.
