Science, Business, and Innovation (previous name Science Based Business)

Subject to changes

Characteristics of this course are subject to change, as we are currently unsure of the way teaching will take place at the end of 2021: on campus, on campus with restrictions, online, hybrid situations. The description and the course objectives will however not change!

Introduction

The minor Science, Business, and Innovation (previous name Science Based Business) will provide you with knowledge and skills in the area of management and entrepreneurship. There is an increasing demand for employees with a science background, who are also versed in the basics of business administration. This is not only the case among R&D-intensive companies, but also among consultancies, banks and public sector organizations. Next to training you in the use of the ‘managerial’ and ‘entrepreneurial’ toolbox, this minor can also help you in your decision on the type of master degree and career you want to pursue after you have graduated as a BSc. Upon finishing this minor, you will have developed:

  • basic knowledge of business administration with a focus on issues in technology-driven companies;

  • insight into the relationships between science and business;

  • a better appreciation of career prospects for scientists in business;

  • skills in applying concepts and theories from strategy, marketing, finance and technology & operations management.

The minor emphasises interactive teaching that connects with management practice. This means opportunities for students to learn through real-life business case discussions and guest speakers.
