1. Reading Africa
This course establishes a foundational understanding of Africa’s history, - traditions, demography, geo-political, and developmental complexities. Students attend lectures with time scheduled for discussions and debates, followed by an online Pitch2Peer presentation.
Specific attention will be paid to
(i) The history of Africa
(ii) African geo-political regions
(iii) Population demographics
(iv) Language and identity
(v) Culture and society in North Africa
(vi) Inclusive development in Africa,
(vii) The impact of religion in Africa, and
(viii) Africa’s global connections.
Goal:
Establish a foundational understanding of Africa’s history, traditions, demography, geo-political and developmental complexities.
Objective: To gain a foundational understanding of significant factors that shape contemporary Africa.
Learning Outcomes: Students will be able to:
1) consider how an understanding of Africa’s past, present and future relates to their own discipline
2) profile African nation states based on an understanding of the continent’s past and present

How and when an exam review will take place will be disclosed together with the publication of the exam results at the latest. If a student requests a review within 30 days after publication of the exam results, an exam review will have to be organized.
