Description
Practical session accompanying Material studies 1.
During the practical sessions, students do several exercises relating to the identification of raw materials (for example, identifying different rocks), recognise and analyse traces of production and describe the main morphological properties, particularly of flint tools and pottery.
Course objectives
Ability to recognise different materials and categorise them in the main categories, such as determining natural stone by main type;
Knowledge of the properties of pottery, metal, stone, flint, wood, textiles, bone and horn by means of exercises;
Knowledge of the main production processes of pottery, flint, stone, building materials, bone, horn, wood, textile, metal and glass;
Ability to provide a basic morphological description of pottery and flint.

Course load
The course load will be distributed as follows:
- 42 hours of practical sessions.
Assessment method
Assignments and tests during the practical session.
The 2 assessments take place at the end of each block and each counts for 50% of the final grade.
